In Anna (Go To Him) we have one of the typical cases in which the cover of the Beatles known as the original. This is from Arthur Alexander, a big star of country-soul in the 1960s.

pioneer in his field, Arthur Alexander was more famous for the fact that better-known musicians (such as the Rolling Stones ) Coverter his hits.
He wrote the song of Anna in 1962, it then reached 68th place in the US-American singles chart and number 10 in the R & B charts.

amusing that the song explicitly Anna (Go To Him) is, but Alexander sings consistently go with him .

And now even through the meat grinder that Beatle John Lennon was a big fan of this song, so he was admitted for the first album by the Beatles. Lennon was hoarse during the long recording day, what you notice here is the perfect (not as good as Twist And Shout , admittedly). The Beatles arranged the piece but also something else, like Richie Under Berger here rightly observes:

Lennon's vocal, however, added a tortured pain not present in Alexander's model, Particularly when he wailed in his upper register at the conclusion of the bridges. The Beatles' backup harmony vocals, in addition were superb, and more effective and haunting counter points than the backing vocals used by Alexander on his original single.

Anna (Go To Him) opens here in the album context, in two originals by Lennon / McCartney, the door for three cover versions on the piece. The other two then it goes next week, maybe there's also a bit on current albums.

Until then!
